Jill Davis was born in Cumbria and lived for many years in Irton, a small village at the foot of the Wasdale valley. Five years ago she moved to Cockermouth and set up her printmaking studio there.
She is interested in portraying the landscape of West Cumbria. She prefers to focus on the everyday views of churches, farms, bridges and houses that surround her rather than dramatic fell views. She is also attracted to the faded Georgian grandeur of Whitehaven and the more higgledy piggledy architecture of Cockermouth. But sometimes she just finds everyday objects a source of inspiration.
She has a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Fine Art and is a founding member of Cumbria Printmakers. Her prints have been displayed in local art events, various Cumbrian galleries and also at the Great Print Exhibition.
